BSU Daily News wins 17 first-place Gold Circles

The Ball State Daily News won 17 first-place honors, including top prizes for commentary, design and graphics from among 12,847 entries in the annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

Winners in the 2013 Gold Circle Awards for Newspapers were announced Friday.

Eight of the newspaper's first-place awards were for design and graphics. Five were for online work, including the top digital awards for general or humor commentary, sports commentary, best sports photograph and best personality profile. In all, the newspaper won 91 Gold Circle Awards for its print and digital work.

Adam Baumgartner, the Daily News editor-in-chief, won three first-place awards for graphics and design. He was the newspaper's design editor during part of the contest period, which was from June 2012 to June 2013.

Former editors Benjamin Dashley and Kelly Dickey won firsts for commentary. Former Photo Editor Bobby Ellis won 11 Gold Circles, including a first place for best online sports photograph.
